Trends for Summer 2011

Warm yourself up ...

L'Wren Scott
Trend 1: Sixties ladylike trend

Seen at: L’Wern Scott and Jayson Brusdon

How to Wear: This trend has carried over from the winter catwalks at Louis Vuttion, Prada and Dries Van Norton. Inspired by Mad Men, this trend oozes early sixties nostalgic with its long hemlines and full silhouettes. To wear to this look, avoid fitted tops and stick with sheer blouses. When choosing a skirt, look for ones that are high waisted and below the knee. Another style is the fitted sheath dress either sleeveless or with classic three-quarter sleeve. For footwear, go for flats or dainty kitten heels for the full Mad Men appeal or modernize it will a pair of heels. I really like this trend because it’s very ladylike and girly and makes you want to play dress up.

Akris

Trend 2: Wide Leg Trouser Trend
Seen at: Akris, Christian Dior and John Patrick
How to Wear: Wide leg trousers are suited to most types of body shapes and can add a bit of personality to work clothes if you’re willing to experiment with fabric and color. This style of trouser adds width to the figure, so it generally suits tall, slim figures. If you have a pear body shape, go for wide leg trousers that flare out just below the knee, as this will help to balance your larger hips.
A way to minimize the effects of wide leg trousers is to buy darker colors such as black or brown. Those that have a petite frame can opt for a pair of slacks with a wide flare. When it comes to tops, go for v necks and blouses. Accessories with a strand of long beads to elongate your upper body. Wedges or heels are perfect for wide leg trousers because of its shape. Wearing flats will ruin the trousers as they will be dragged across the floor. I like wide leg trousers because they let your legs breathe and they also look good with espadrilles.

Oscar de la Renta
Trend 3: Lace trend

Seen at: Alberta Ferretti, Oscar de la Renta and Dolce & Gabbana

How to wear: Lace is a big look for spring and if worn right can be a great start to those warm winter days. A simple lace vest with jeans or chinos will look relaxed and make sure to keep the rest of your look as simple as possible. Jewelery should be kept to a minimum like a simple stud earring or bangle. For evening wear, go for a fitted lace dress with killer heels but make sure to wear a camisole underneath to avoid your underwear showing. Again this is another trend that has been strong on the catwalks and one of my favorites as its flattering and flirty.

Stella McCartney

Trend 4: Tropical Fruit Print trend

Seen at: Prada, Stella McCartey, Betsey Johnson and Moschino (Cheap & Chic)

How to Wear: This tooty fruity trend is quirky and spring friendly. Go for sheer blouses with fruity prints and team up with a white pair of linen trousers for that holiday fun look. You go can go all quirky with banana earrings just like the ones at Prada or wear a chiffon tropical dress with sandals. This is a very fun trend and it’s exciting to see our five a day on the catwalks at the major fashion shows.
